Deadline for applications is 20 January 2020
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences – Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) launched the Mathematical Sciences for Climate Change Resilience (MS4CR) program in August 2017 with support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The goal of the MS4CR program at AIMS is to increase the contribution of African mathematical scientists to finding solutions to climate change-related challenges in Africa through training, research and internships. AIMS-NEI will be providing 100 internships in the field of climate change for promising AIMS students and alumni.
Internships may be hosted by any institution with interest in climate change resilience. The host institution is expected to have an interest to partner with AIMS-NEI as part of the MS4CR program and provide at least one intern with a high quality work experience.
AIMS-NEI MS4CR interns will be placed in research groups in either public or private sector organisations in Africa that have vested interests in the field of climate science and resilience. The intern will work on a specific project that is fully integrated into the work of the host institution. The intern will also have an academic supervisor appointed by AIMS-NEI who will make periodic visits to the host institution.
Applicants must clearly demonstrate how their research at AIMS is related to climate change and how the MS4CR internship will help them achieve their career aspirations. Female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
AIMS-NEI will contribute to a monthly stipend for all interns. Additional costs of hosting the intern, including internal supervision and mentoring, facilities, and project expenses will be borne by the host institution.
The recipient will recognise the support of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and Global Affairs Canada (GAC) by including in all publications and any public reference to the project the following acknowledgement: “This work was carried out with the aid of a grant from the International Development Research Centre, Ottawa, Canada, www.idrc.ca, and with financial support from the Government of Canada, provided through Global Affairs Canada (GAC), www.international.gc.ca.”
Institutions interested in hosting an MS4CR intern should send an initial expression of interest to email@example.com. AIMS will respond to this and successful discussions will lead to the placing of a project description on the Open MS4CR Internship Opportunities page.
AIMS-NEI graduates interested in applying for any of the MS4CR Internship Opportunities should use their AIMS email address and click here to complete and submit their application with all supporting documents by the deadline shown after the project description. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to provide contact details for two recent referees.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee with members from both AIMS-NEI and the host institution. Successful applicants will be contacted within a month of the deadline.
Please consider your application unsuccessful if you don’t hear from the program team within one month of the deadline.
Applications for this internship should be submitted via the online application system, stating clearly the title of the internship.
Deadline for applications: January 20th, 2020 – 11:59 PM (EAT).
All inquiries should be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org
