Pictorial: Benin, Guinea Higher Education Ministers Visit AIMS

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) President and CEO, Thierry Zomahoun recently hosted Ministers of Higher Education of Benin and Guinea, Hon. Marie-Odile Attanaso and Hon. Abdoulaye Yéro Baldé, respectively, and discussed the impact of the AIMS Ecosystem in Africa.

During their visit, the two ministers met with AIMS President and CEO Thierry Zomahoun at the AIMS Secretariat in Kigali where they discussed the possibility of expanding AIMS’ current six-centre network to their respective countries and open an avenue to directly benefit from the AIMS Ecosystem.

The two Ministers also visited and interacted with students at the AIMS Rwanda Centre where they both praised the Pan-African environment as well as the substantial representation of female students who are undertaking courses that, elsewhere, are largely dominated by males.

In their respective remarks, the two ministers commended the work being done at AIMS and pledged to encourage students in their countries to apply and benefit from the quality STEM Education programs being taught at AIMS centres across Africa.

AIMS currently has centres in six African countries including South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania and Rwanda. The centres with exception of Tanzania which focuses on research offer post-graduate training and research in mathematical sciences aimed at enabling Africa’s brightest students to become innovators that propel scientific, educational and economic self-sufficiency and lead the continent’s transformation.
