AIMS enables Africa’s brightest students to flourish as independent thinkers, problem solvers and innovators capable of propelling Africa’s future scientific, educational and economic self-sufficiency. AIMS programs build a critical mass of innovators focused on locally driven solutions with global applications.

Across Africa, there is great potential for young people to drive innovation and development. In order to turn this promise to progress, AIMS focuses on training, research and public engagement in mathematical sciences. For more than a decade, AIMS has been training promising leaders to address global challenges. Taken to scale, this model has the potential to change lives, education systems and economies across the continent.

Through our intensive approach, AIMS is building a critical mass of educated innovators:

960 graduates, 31% of whom are women”

60% currently reside in Africa”

90 have completed PhDs, with another 225 in progress”

292 have completed Research Master’s Degrees, with another 125 in progress”

137 alumni currently teach at various levels of education in Africa with over 90% teaching in tertiary institutions”

Transforming the continent through locally-driven solutions and research. AIMS now occupies the thirteenth place in Africa for weighted research outputs on the Nature Index list.

Expanding the pipeline for Africa’s future scientists, engineers, mathematicians and leaders in various fields. AIMS has five centres, and its students represent 42 nations. AIMS’ Next Einstein Initiatives will expand AIMS unique approach to 15 centres of excellence by 2023.

Ensuring long-term sustainability through funding diversification, engagement and participation of African governments. We apply world standards for accountability and management.

Promoting gender equality, AIMS is committed to ensuring 30% of its students are women and that future female leaders in math and science have the support and opportunities they need to advance.
